   Welcome to iTunesU Greek Minimize

Welcome!

I am glad that you are interested in the Greek of the New Testament!   The Greek of the ancient world has excited me since 1963, when I took my first Greek course during my freshman year at Concordia College, Milwaukee, WI, as part of my preparation for the Lutheran ministry.  Not only did this language take my mind captive because of its importance as the means by which the writers of the New Testament communicated the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but its beauty, including the very shape of its letters, moved me to devote my energies to understanding it as thoroughly as I could.  My first Greek instructor, Dr. Walter A. Jennrich, was a genius of a teacher; he inspired, not only love of the language, but also love of the learning of the language, and it is to him that I owe a huge pedagogical debt.  I hope that you will make full use of the Elementary Greek course available on iTunes U, a course I have taught every year since 1975.  It is, in many ways, my thanks to my own teacher, for it seeks to convey the fire and passion he instilled in me, and which I hope to instill in all whom it is my privilege to teach.
On this web page you will find opportunities for further exploration.  In addition to more information about myself (“About the Prof”), you will find other resources for advancing in the understanding of Hellenistic/Koine Greek.  You will also find examples of “Applying the Knowledge,” i.e., essays or presentation that I have made that put an understanding of this Greek to work (e.g., an essay on the ending of the Gospel of Mark). Finally, you will be offered a way to contact me to ask questions or to interact with what has been made available.  I will try to do the best I can with such communications, though I am bound by the constraints of a heavy teaching load, along with multiple writing and presentation obligations.
