Dr. Sánchez on Hispanic Roman Catholic Defections Minimize
KFUO Interview with Dr. Sánchez
CHS Director Dr. Sánchez discusses Hispanic cultural diversity, the phenomenon of Roman Catholic Hispanic defection, its relationship to secularism and especially Pentecostal-Charismatic churches, and the challenge for Protestants and Lutherans of communicating the Gospel to Hispanic cultures in ways that achieve not only conversion but retention of disciples. Interviewer: Ronald Lettner (Studio A, KFUO AM).   read more...
Dr. Sanchez Speaks on the Immigrant Neighbor - Thursday, June 10, 2010
Who is my neighbor? In the context of an article on the controversial Arizona immigration law, Dr. Sanchez discusses how arguments on whether civil laws--either in general or in particular aspects--are just, fair, and reasonable always involve advocating for some concrete neighbor or sets of neighbors. This or that law or decision-making concerning law is not argued in some abstract way, but concretely from the context of some vocation from which I serve some neighbor. Who gets the benefits of this or that law? Who suffers the consequences? Dr. Sanchez challenges Christians on all sides of the immigration debate to consider not only those concrete neighbors they are called to serve through their vocations but even those that might not fit neatly into their vocations. Where does the illegal immigrant, for example, fit into our concept of neighbor, law, and justice?   read more...

   "Leccionario" Series is Back! Minimize
By popular demand, theological/pastoral commentary on the lectionary (series A, B, and C) is being downloaded on the Spanish-language "Resources" section of our CHS website. The lectionary series follows the assigned scriptural readings from Spanish hymbook ¡Cantad al Señor! We are glad to provide this service to workers in the field as a tool for their personal devotion and/or sermon and Bible study preparation.
